Have your say on how liveability and energy efficiency NCC 2022 requirements are achieved in SA

The building industry is invited to submit feedback on the draft Ministerial Building Standard that outlines how the liveable housing and energy efficiency provisions in the NCC 2022 would be delivered in South Australia from 1 October 2024.

Following the Ministerial Liaison Group meeting on 6 November 2023, the Minister for Planning confirmed agreed outcomes of the National Construction Code (NCC) 2022 Implementation Working Group, which were the result of a significant amount of effort by all involved in the committee.

The liveable housing and energy efficiency provisions in the NCC 2022 will commence in South Australia on 1 October 2024.

These liveable housing and energy efficiency provisions include:

  • improved entry and spaces inside homes, such as wider doors and corridors and step-free access
  • requirements to reinforce a bathroom and toilet wall during construction
  • an increase from 6 to 7 star for energy related construction requirements under the Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS)
  • adoption of an annual energy use budget related to household building system design (heating and cooling, hot water, lighting).

Find out more about the draft Ministerial Building Standard for how these provisions are achieved and how to submit your feedback on the PlanSA portal.
